I was hoping for 2 movies as well, until this announcement came and I really
thought about it. Where would they separate the two? IMHO I can't really think
of any part of the movie that has a good cliffhanger or any sort of way to
divide it into two movies. The story is all leading up to the surprise ending,
which would make the first movie really boring and sort of pointless. Of
course all the tri-wizard stuff and the QWC would be entertaining, but nothing
really ties everything together until the end of the story. Ideally in a two-part
story you'd need something to focus each story around. and GoF is too linear
of a story, it would be sort of awkward to have it as two completely separate
stories. Harry Potter is already one essential story being told in 7 parts
anyway, it would be hard to split up one of those parts.
Here's hoping that movie is between 2.5 and 3 hours!
