Iggy here:
Well, you could always end the first movie just after they are leaving
the first task and are told that the golden egg contains the clue to the
second task. This seems not only like it would be a natural division
(because you leave about the same amount of action and intrigue on both
sides of the break), but also at about the halfway point in the book.
Like any good movie, you've just finished a load of action, you've had a
"calming point" and (for sequels) you've added just the right "hitch" at
the end...
