Yes, I could SO see Rita as the "mutton dressed as lamb" type! (Speaking as a woman in my mid-40s myself, less than a year younger than Tracey.) There's nothing else honest about Rita -- it totally fits! Plus I adore Tracey and always have. (OT: if you want to see Tracey at her unsung best, watch "I Love You To Death" [1990] which costars Kevin Kline, Joan Plowright, River Phoenix, Keanu Reeves, William Hurt, Miriam Margolyes [yes, Professor Sprout! The first thing I saw her in, quite a small role, and she was brilliant!], and Heather Graham in a very early, barely credited role.)
Well, now you've sold me. I read somewhere, perhaps on Leaky or Mugglenet, that Rita had been cast (and I'm too lazy to look up who it was), but I would love to see Tracey in that role. One of her gifts is her ability to just disappear into a role.

So if mid-40s isn't too old for Rita, you've got that role filled. How old
is Rita? I rather think some of her more outrageous outfits are an
attempt to look younger than she really is...
