[HPFGU-Movie] Re: Sirius: The Casting Game

When I first heard that Alan Rickman had been cast as Snape I was thrilled.
I had read the books first. The thing that I thought was perfect about him
for the role is his voice. If there was ever an actor who had a voice that
coincides with the descriptions of Snape's voice and manner of speaking, it
is Rickman.

I completely agree! However, I saw the first movie before reading any of the

books, so I wonder what those who had an image of Snape beforehand thought
of
him (anyone care to share?). I wonder if the casting department looked at
him
in Dogma and thought that seemed Snapeish (although I suppose they didn't,
he's got a lot of other work to his name), his performance in that is almost
the
same, only not as cold. Sometimes, though, I worry that he made Snape's
sarcasm a little too funny. Of course, that could just be perspective, when
reading
you are sort of living through Harry, so what happens to him happens to you
in
a way (if that makes sense), but its less personal watching it. I can enjoy
and hate Snape at the same time.
I agree with the comment made earlier today about Kenneth Braughn [sic?]
playing Lockhard too. I couldn't stand him in the book, but in the movie
Kenneth
Braughn's acting made him really funny.
