Sirius: The Casting Game

The interview in Premiere magazine said they want Sirius to play by
someone who is "iconic" of being scary, dangerous and rebellious,
but can also be a caring person. And this speaks more about Sirius
than "just being handsome in his glory teenage days". And so we have
Gary Oldman. "HOT" and "CUTE (emphasis *in the past*)" is probably
WAY at the bottom of the last of list of the priorities of Sirius
casting (and I AGREE!). Just by going for "iconic", all the little
known actors won't make it in first round.
Whoever "cute" actor that someone mention here, sorry to me it is
ineffective (and embarassing) to see some nobody on screen as
this "infamous escaped prisoner" who is supposed to have a mythical
frightening presence because majority of time Sirius is OFF screen,
he is only a presence and name that scares people. Imagine when it's
time for him to appear onscreen it'll be such a let down to see an
actor you'd go "who? and feel "small" (and most importantly if he
can't act well and pull some corny cheesy "ooo...I'm so scary~ I'm
in pain" acts...btw I know nothing about that "cute" actor so of
course I'm not saying that' he is), but you get my point: the status
(better if he's iconic) of the actor is part of what the casting
people concern. To all those who haven't read the book will go into
the theatre knowing that they're supposed to fear Sirius, feeling
his threatening presence even OFF screen. So any actor who is little
known from acting in TV series or small budget film, won't pull off
that GREAT presence. Not to mention an unequal "presence" when up
against famous "iconic to majority of audience" actors like Alan
Rickman. The Snape/Sirius dynamic will be so one-sided as Alan
Rickman's Snape will totally overpower a "nobody actor's Sirius" and
makes Sirius feel small and unimportant.
As fans I know "looks" is probably 1st MAJOR priority concern for
most, but that won't work.
