pantheon of British actresses, but one that comes to mind in terms of
stature and age-appropriate is Imelda Staunton. I haven't seen her
most recent movie, which is out currently (and whose name I don't
remember), but I thought she was delightfully annoying in "Sense and
Sensibility," and she demonstrated a wide vocal range, so I think she
could handle the high-pitched voice. Plus, she's worked with Emma
Thompson and Alan Rickman, so it would be old home week!

Theresa: Oh! I hadn't even thought of her. I remember her in Sense
and Sensibility and Shakespeare in Love (she was the nurse). She has
such a sweet face I don't know that I would have thought of Umbridge
but her voice was certainly somewhat perfect if you watch the
animated film Chicken Run - she did the voice for Bunty and that I
can imagine sounding like Umbridge. I can still hear Bunty saying 'we
mustn't panic' in that film. Still she seems too cute for Umbridge so
they would need a good makeup person.
