Snape's behavior

I wasn't able to reply to the actual message since I
am on digest, but I did want to address the assumption
by a few posters that Snape has never been physical
with the students, especially Harry.
In OOTP, during the chapter 'Snape's Worst Memory', he
throws Harry 'from him with all his might'. Harry hits
the floor hard. Before this, Snape had grabbed Harry's
arm in a pincer like grip while still in the pensieve.

I would say  that throwing a student from him with all
his might constitutes being rather physical ;-)

P.S. He also shakes Harry so hard in that scene that
Harry's glassses slip down his nose ;-)
