I saw December Boys a few days ago (rented through Blockbuster.) It
is essentially a coming of age story in which Dan plays the oldest
of four australian orphans. I found it charming and it kept my
interest based on the characterizations rather than a riveting plot.

The characters all seemed very real and believable. I was drawn to
Maps (Dan's character) as a very believable 16-17 year old
struggling with conflicting feelings about belonging to a family.
Maps was very real to me; never did I think "that's Dan Radcliffe
portraying a character." Dan (and Harry) disappeared as Maps
emerged.

I recommend renting it; it's not the earthshattering movie of the
year but it delivers a message that bears repeating.
