There are plenty of "Oriental" people in Scotland so a Scottish
"accent" is quite normal; the word "brogue" isn't often used though.
You knew she would have an English accent - but she hasn't - Scottish
isn't English!

Sandy:
Since I don't live in Scotland I would have no way of knowing how many
people of oriental descent live there, and I had no idea that Katie was from
Scotland so her Scottish accent surprised me. I stand corrected: I knew she would
have a "British" accent. I said English accent because I thought she was from
England.

joxy:
Gambon was born in the Republic of Ireland which made him Irish not
British, though he later received UK nationality.
Great Britain is England Scotland and Wales. UK is Great Britain and
Northern Ireland.

Sandy:

Thank you for the tutorial but I could care less what comprises the UK or
Great Britain. I will be more explicit. Gambon does not sound Irish, Scottish
or English to me. If I did not know he was from somewhere over there I would
think he was American.

The question was did any of the accents surprise us or were they what we
expected? Katie's and Gambon's did and were not for me. Please excuse my
topographical errors in not knowing the lay of the land over there, and for not
stating myself more clearly.

Sandy, who means no offense to anyone British, Scottish, English, Irish or
Oriental in heritage.
