Ok, I am very excited about meeting you folks! (And seeing Neil
again!)
I'm not a New Yorker, so I just have some general observations about
where we should meet. Jenny, you can tell me how well this fits in
with the places your were thinking about.
If we can find someplace not too noisy, that would be great; it'll
make it much easier to have conversations. I really want to avoid
tobacco smoke, but my impression is that NYC has gotten quite strict
about limiting smoking. So, I'm guessing (hoping?) that avoiding
smoke won't be a problem. Do we have any smokers in the group that
will need a place that also has a smoking section, so they can take
cigarette breaks?
Grand Central sounds like a good place to meet. How far is it,
though, from the Upper East side, DTUT, etc? If possible, I'd like
not to do too much walking. If we decide to go via subway/bus/cabs
from Grand Central to wherever, then the distance shouldn't be a
problem.
I think it's a great idea to have two meeting places, one for people
who can get there early, another for people who can't make it until
later. I was thinking
How many people are interested in doing something in the evening? I'm
trying to decide if I should stay over in NYC Saturday night. If I
don't stay over, I'll need to be back at Grand Central around 7pm or
so, to get a train to my sister's place in Connecticut.
Is anyone up for doing some sightseeing on Friday afternoon? I
should be in NYC early Friday afternoon, and I'd love to have a New
York native show me around. Also, is anyone interested in getting
together for dinner or coffee on Friday evening? It would be really
nice to get to spend more time with you folks!
