I'm of exactly the same opinion.  I love his standup (the only 
televised one I remember is at the New York Palladium (is that 
right??), but his films turn me cold as I find them so emotionally 
manipulative.  I enjoyed DPS and Awakenings when they first came out, 
but I have got very impatient with Robin Williams since - over 
emotional, and far too saccharine.  It is this, not Neil's 
description of Branston pickle, which sends me retching for the sick 
bucket.
