In the UK a 'gentle' is another name for a maggot. Not in the States
I guess!

Maggots called gentles? No, not here. They are called nastly, slimey,
disgusting, filthy, and on and on ... but never gentle. It sounds like
Hagrid coined that description for them. Why on earth would you call them,
gentles?
