Partly. Even if you like the name if it belings to a character you hate/person you dislike there are going to be negative feelings associated with the name and so you're less likely to use it, either for a child or for a character in something. Unless you're writing a nasty character and feeling particularly vindictive.
I was thinking of using Peregrine for something (it being Pippin's real name in LOTR) but my MA professor is called that and I really have to be careful who I uise it for now, because I'll never be able to use it on a character involved in a sex scene, the association would be too wierd

A pattern I've noticed...do your
names that come from literature or other mediums usually involve your
favorite character(s)? I can't even remember where half of my names
came from anymore.
