Kathryn:
> Partly. Even if you like the name if it belings to a character you
hate/person you dislike there are going to be negative feelings
associated with the name and so you're less likely to use it, either
for a child or for a character in something. Unless you're writing a
nasty character and feeling particularly vindictive.
Very true. Even though I like the name Tamsin, I probably could
never name a child that because I could not stand having anyone call
her Tammy, since I once knew a woman named Tammy who was absolutely
horrid.
Adding to the unique names list:
I have known girls named:
Macon, LiaAnn, TusaRebecca (one word, named after her grandmothers
Tusa and Rebecca), Shannessy, Arcadia
There aren't so many on my guys list:
Jace, Bayard...that's all I can think of right now
In another category...strange nicknames. I knew a guy whose given
name is Christopher, but everyone called him Tito. I also knew an
Elizabeth who was called Buffy. Hmmm.
Abby
not what's on the birth certificate, but at least it's logical
