A Jennifer after my own heart. :)
I was named after my grandmother (Jenny Nicolene Jensen - was Danish),
and thoroughly appreciate the fact that my mother didn't name me
*Jenny* only. While she called me that while she was alive (until I
was 8), I've always hated being called it ever since I found that a
female jackass (hehe) is called a jenny. Yikes. At least not a lot
of people know that. In any case, I'm mostly called Jen now for some
strange reason... I was called strictly Jennifer until I got into
college, and I guess I just got lazy about correcting people. ;) In
any case, it's not as bad (for me personally, that is) as Jenny.
Maybe it also has to do with the fact that I'm jealous if anyone other
than my mother gets to call me that? Some sort of deep-seeded
(deep-seated?) resentment of anyone who tries to take over my mother's
position? (My aunt has my life-time resentment because of that, but
that's another story)
On the topic of names, I have lots of interesting ones in my family.
My daughter's name is Virginia Dare, after my mother and my great-aunt
Dare... and now her name is a history lesson in itself. Some of you
may remember me mentioning that my uncle's name to us was Uncle Bus,
but legally, it was Clarence Commodore Spitznagle.
And of course, since we're having another baby in July, my husband and
I have been thinking a lot about names (I've been trying to keep it
down, though, since he gets to name this next one). He likes the name
Sadie, which I don't mind, but he wants to put Allison in there, too,
which I just don't like the flow of. Sadie Allison Piersol? Come on.
SAP! ;) His grandmother's name is Frances, and I like that, too. As
you can see, we tend to like the more old-fashioned, yet uncommon
names... trying to single-handedly bring about a comeback, I guess.
Jen (who actually has met 3 young(er) Gingers since her daughter was
born, and is worried that *her* Ginger is going to have three other
ones in school with her like the Jennifer problem in the late
80s/early 90s)
