Ooops!

I missed it! Yesterday was the first anniversary of my joining HPFGU. I'm still not sure how it happened. It was getting time (as I thought!) for Book 5 to come out, or at least for the rumours to fly, so I thought I'd surf the internet, looking for (sensible) HP references. I looked at Bloomsbury and Scholastic, then stumbled across the Lexicon. That mentioned HPFGU, so I probably clicked on a link or typed in the url... but what I don't remember at all is why I decided to join. It's not as if you can see what the posts are like before you decide. I wasn't looking for a discussion group - I just wanted some information, IIRC. I think I was just interested to see and reckoned I could always leave if I didn't like it...

"... and some old witch in Bath had a book that you could *never stop reading*!" Ron Weasley

...oh well.

I now seem to be the 901st member in time order, so I'm 'senior' to over three quarters of the list. Frightening. I lurked until 4 May (during which time Abanes came and went) when I posted message 18132.

Come to think of it, what you got from me yesterday on the main list was a pretty typical selection: a boring nitpicky one about Snape as Potions Master, a snippy tail-tweaker about teenage marriage, a piece of fluff about Weatherby, and one serious post about Ron, Hermione, and Fleur. It's the last kind I enjoy most doing, and hope others get most out of.

I have had many unexpected nice results from membership of HPFGU: friendships with people across the world, writing things I hadn't thought I could, beliefs challenged in new ways. It's been fun chatting, elfing, and meeting people IRL too.

David
