Yes, I have, and I've tried to get other people on this list 
interested in it before.  I found the sequel, Slaves of the Mastery, 
is extremely harrowing, and I certainly don't think it's really a 
children's book.  Young adult/fantasy, I would say, but the 
allegorical themes the trilogy touches on are quite complex.  The 
final book of the trilogy is out in May, and I can't wait.

The books are a very visual read as well, which isn't surprising, 
considering that William Nicholson is a screen writer - he wrote the 
screenplays for, amongst other things, Shadowlands, and Gladiator.
