Firstly they were referring to the end of morning competition at the
European Athletics and said that the Germans were "all off eating their
sausages" and then later they visited the beer tent and (in a report about
the UK successes) said that "the Oompa band aren't playing God Save the
Queen quite yet, actually they aren't playing anything worth listening to at
all!"
OK, I am not defending the BBC, but you do have to bear in mind that they think thatthese kind of remarks will entertain the average British sports jock. You also have to bear in mind that the music comparison probably has to do with the successful use of pop music to fill in between times during the Commonwealth Games. I think those Games showed the world just how we have to do things at big sporting events to attract interest. They worked well and we should be proud of them.

So why is it that it's practically a criminal offense to insult coloured
people but the 'Frogs' and the 'Krauts' are fine, and if they complain we
just say they have no sense of humour?

Because racism is still associated with colour of skin in our minds, not nationality, unfortunately !
