I think you hit on a lot of the points:
-He is described as handsome (although I think in most of our lives
looks certainly isn't the main thing).
-He is an extremely loyal friend (his comment to Peter that he should
have died rather than turn his friends over to V).
-He risks his life for his best friends son. Repeatedly. Therefore
takes his responsibilities seriously.
-He is not really well defined (which allows us to read a lot into
his character in a variety of different ways.
-He has a certain strength of character that has allowed him to
resist the dementors for all those years when lessor mortals
succombed to insanity (although I do believe it was not only his
ability to transform, but his own guilt and depression that helped
him survive...but that's another topic)
-He's described as intelligent (another big plus for most of us)
-He's vulnerable. His stay in Azkaban has given him a weakness which
engenders various complimentary emotions.
- He was unjustly imprisoned, which makes him worthy of righteous
indignation.
I don't really see that it's the dangerous biker dude that is
attractive to me. I've never been attracted to that type and the
only piece of evidence we have that he is really a dangerous guy is
the motorcycle. Although most of PoA we are led to believe he's the
most vicious wizard next to V of their time...I think it's the shift
of perceptions that also lead to him being such an intriguing
character.
His over the top reactions in PoA can really be attributed to post
traumatic stress disorder which causes irrational reactions to
situations, blackouts, and lack of control. Since this is OT...did
anyone else see the episode of West Wing that portrayed Josh Lymans
PTSD reactions to christmas music? Anyway it really illustrated how
someone with PTSD can be set off by a relatively insignificant
trigger.
Plus JKR wrote him that way...so we must be right!
According to an exchange at a book signing:
Listee (can not remember her name at the moment): Is Sirius supposed
to be dead sexy?
JKR: (looking surprised) Yes!
So there you have it. It seems that there are 3 camps amongst most
of us grownup women (and men) in the HP community.
1) The Sirius is sexy camp
2) The Lupin is sexy camp
3) The Snape is sexy camp (sorry just can not see this...but I'm sure
you all have your reasons)
I wonder if one could classify personalities like those personality
quizzes depending on the fictional character you crush on...
I'd be a cross between Sirius and a certain red-headed scot from a
different book series. : )
Carole
retreating to lurkdom...this was fun...must stop by here more often.
