well, on that score, unless Middle-Earth Big Folk are also long

is the equivalent of a Big Man (!) at 21, this being the age of
adulthood in Tolkien's time in Britain. Hence Elijah, who is 20
IIRC, technically looks about the right age, and the Ring will keep
him that way. Though I'm interested to see how Peter's going to get
Elijah looking gaunt and tortured and filthy in Return of the King.
*Look* at the lad! He has the face of a pink-skinned, blue-eyed
cherub... you'd think dirt would evaporate off him into the
stratosphere!

I'm rather wondering that myself. And looking forward to it. *looks
guilty, toes the ground.* Elijah seems to do tormented inner
suffering very well, and frankly, I'm looking forward to the filthy
and half-starved in Mordor portion of the narrative. (I wonder also
what will become of Sean Astin, forced to gain 30 pounds for his part
as Sam. Will he be losing the weight in Mordor? It would be canon if
he did.) I suppose it would be dreadful if I wondered aloud if
they'll also keep the bit in ROTK where Sam finds Frodo naked in the
Orc prison? I have a feeling we will discover that the Orcs have
kindly left Frodo his undies.

of Daniel-as-Harry. Actually, I seem to be developing a troubling
taste for wide-eyed silky-haired youthful leading men... I also
thought Elijah-as-Frodo was more appealing than the more obvious
candidates for Hunk of the Rings. Hmmm. Err, hang on, hang on, put
down that call to the p(a)edophile police (though Elijah *is* of
age...), I think it's not specifically the youth factor, it's the
youthful outlook factor... that warmth and playfulness and
steadfastness and creativity (snip)Just add strong, philosophical
soul (such as that portrayed in Frodo and Harry) and a splash of
articulate wit, sprinkle with good hair and enjoy!

*giggles* Elijah is twenty-one! He is well within the realm of
legality. I think it's simply the fact that he looks very young
combined with the fact that he is, after all, the same boy who was
once in "Flipper" that makes it seem a mite frightening. I am
probably captain of the Elijah-is-the-most-appealing-LOTR-boy ship,
so I am right there with you. And I predict Daniel's future sexiness.
I thought this was simply an indicator of the fact that I usually
fall for the heroes with tormented souls and Dark Destinies. Daniel
and Elijah also have similar coloring: pale skin, dark hair, huge,
troubled blue eyes. Both look boyish but project an old-soul inner
sorrow and vulnerability. (Aragorn is also troubled, but nobody could
call him vulnerable. Legolas is pretty, but looks as if his biggest
trouble is making sure his hair gets the proper 100 brush strokes
every morning.) Both have sudden, sweet smiles. Elijah is very
definitely sexy; Dan someday will be, I predict. And if Elijah can
manage sexy in big fake feet while being shrunk down by CGI, this,
IMHO, says great things for him.
