(((Hugs)))
I know this only addresses one part of your prob, but deferring uni probably feels really frustrating right now, but you'll make it through, trust me. It took me 6 years to do my BA due to illness (ME - which is finally recognised as a proper illness now, yay) and I'm on my MA now, heading for a PhD - no I never intend to get a real job, I'm having way to much fun as a student :)

And just think of all the time you'll have to devote to us while you're recovering.

Unlike Jen I have been sleeping but I still had a really terrible
  last couple of weeks.
First of all I broke up with my boyfriend and now have an inability
to see him without bursting into tears.
Then I go told I need to have an operation which involves removing a
part of one of my vertabrae and one rib. Worst of all it means that I
have to defer my university place because it takes six months to get
over the worst of the recovering.
And then my step-father tells me that I will have to go and live with
my father while I'm recovering because he doesn't want to have
support me when I'm not useful. Despite the fact I'll be on sick
  benefit.
So I'm really sorry for whining at you all but I've had such a bad
  week.
  Sofie :)
