TURKISH DELIGHT
dictionary.com offers two definitions for Turkish Delight: "A candy
usually consisting of jellylike cubes covered with powdered sugar"
and "a jellied candy typically flavored with rose water". The former
of those two sounds like Aplets and Cotlets (and the other product
they make: Fruitlets?) which I like very much. The latter sounds as
if it would taste a bit bland, altho' I do LOVE sweet lassi, which is
sweetened with rose water.
I've never had Turkish Delight from UK or Greece or Turkey, but I have
been told that the original, authentic, recipe for Turkish Delight was
dusted with hashish rather than with sugar, which might explain why
Edmund liked it so much.
VIOLET CRUMBLE
One time Regina and I lunched at a restaraunt that had a Gift Shop
that included some miscellaneous imported food items. When Regina saw
Violet Crumble, her eyes lit up and she got very excited. While
burbling about how good it is, and she got used to eating Violet
Crumble as a child in the Phillipines, because a lot of Aussie candy
is imported to the Phillipines, she bought two bars and absolutely
FORCED one upon me. I dutifully tried to eat her gift, and it did
taste vaguely honeylike, but I did not like it. I could not force
myself to eat more than half, so I gave the other half to Tim. He
didn't like it either.
The other Aussie candies that the Heins brought while they were in
Los Angeles for Christmas were much nicer but I don't remember their
names. I don't recall anything called Cherry Ripe.
MICHELLE! Where did you get your scarf? E-bay?
