Hey, everyone--
Thanks for the feedback onlist and off for the very long rant that I
attempted to pass off as an essay. ;-) My intent wasn't to spread
hate, or to make people feel guilty for collective actions, or to be
patted on the back, or to in any other way be a Bad Citizen of our
lovely community... I'd just been ruminating on some things for a
very long time and you guys were unfortunate enough to get the cud.
*sigh*
Barb Dickson e-mailed me offlist (thanks!) to note an error in my
facts--Jefferson had very little to do with the framing of the
Constitution. It should be (as every child should know) "Declaration
of Independence". I have my own students memorize it; goodness knows
why I had the memory lapse as I would have redlined it if I'd found
it in one of their essays. With the uncomfortable nature of the
debate, admittedly I ought to have taken the time to get my facts
right. But hey, I had a date--and the King holiday was almost over,
so... :-)
Okay, back to everyday HP community life. One of the reasons why I
love this list is because it's one of the few environments that I
function in, virtual or RL, where I don't have to think much about
the things that I wrote about--I feel as if I'm free to be me and am
accepted here. I hope others feel the same... I really think it's
got something to do with JKR's writing... and I wonder what the world
would be like if it was more like hers (barring Voldemort and Death
Eaters, of course).
UK Specialty Foods--one of the coolest surprises this summer was that
I love British food. My friends all look at me funny when I say
this, but I gained a good 25 pounds over the summer--my mother was
commenting on how, erm, healthy I looked in one of the pictures.
The #1 thing I miss, after Yorkshire puddling (stomach grumbles), is
the ploughman's you get in pubs. I love cheese, I love good bread, I
love lettuce-and-tomato, and I love sweet and sour. Problem is, I
can't find that brown pickle anywhere here. *sniffles* What's in
it? Can you make it?
Finally, I saw Turkish Delight in my local grocery store. Should I
buy it, or should I wait until I know it's "fresh". (Not sure how
long it's been sitting there.)
