For what it's worth, chapter 25, pg. 543 (US harcover addition) has 
the Daily Prophet referring to him as Austustus Rookwood.  I'm 
inclined to suspect that if the British version refers to him as 
Algernon, it's more likely a mistake in that version, but I've been 
known to be wrong.  Once or twice.  ;)
