I also disliked "The Hobbit" when I read it at a young age (6th or 7th
grade - my mom made me read it over the summer, since it is one of her
favorite books), and I was therefore turned-off to the whole LOTR
thing. I am currently reading the books for the first time ever (I'm in
the middle of TTT right now), and I know that I would have never even
considered reading them if the movie(s) hadn't been made. I am not
quite sure if I disliked "The Hobbit" because I was forced to read it
(due to poor grades in school) or because I was too young to appreciate
Tolkein, but I think I will read it again after I am done with LOTR and
see if I still dislike it.

illyana, who just realized that this post is pretty pointless, but is
going to hit "send" anyway!
