In the geekiest way possible - we met at a LARP (Live Action 
Role-Playing game) hosted by my college gaming group.  He was in 
costume - 40s noir detective-type - and he stood on a chair and 
insulted the heck out of someone I couldn't stand.  I realized right 
away I had to get to know him better.  At the next game, I similarly 
impressed his best friend, and got to be part of their social circle, 
and the rest just fell into place . . . (of course, I had to end the 
relationship with the physically abusive jerk I was with at the time 
first, but that was going to have to happen eventually anyway).
