Cindy,
When I read I Claudius by Robert Graves I thought I would laugh myself
silly. I also read a book called Sarum that I enjoyed but can't
remember the author on that one. I think that young adult fiction is
some ways is better than adult books. I read Catherine, Called Birdy
by Karen Cushman it was excellent; this is a book for 12 year olds. So
I would check in the chilrens section of the library.

Demonstrating yet again my complete inability to remember names I don't know
the author of Sarum either but if it's who I think it is he also wrote a
book about London (called London I believe) which is the story of the in
habitants of the area from the neolithic era up to the present. Of course it
is daunting in the fact that it makes OoP look like a little light reading
:)
