I've been to wallpaper hell and back myself, Elkins, and I feel your 
pain!  Yes, "Dif" is a magical solvent, so much so that I almost 
suspect it might be the creation of one Severus Snape.  I did notice 
that you make no mention of that handy little tool that you roll 
around over the wallpaper and it makes little holes in it.  If you 
don't have one, I highly recommend getting it.  I found that if I 
gave the wallpaper a good perforating with this thing, the holes 
allowed the potion to soak in better.  I suspect this is a Muggle 
invention, but even Muggles get it right once in awhile.  ;-)
