I haven't read Lyra's Oxford yet, but I have read the Lockhart 
books.  I think they are very good, though quite different from 
HDM.  The third one (The Tiger in the Well) is particularly 
memorable.  Although they have definite fantastic elements, they are 
not really fantasy - reminiscent of Conan Doyle and Joan Aiken.
