Hello, I'm a fairly new poster and just want to say first of all how
much I love reading everyones ideas. It's great fun while we wait
for HBP. Beyond that though I'm curious where the Lupin Sr idea
came from. I don't remember anything in particular being said about
his family at all really. I mean we know he has parents but other
then the passing remark of them in POA not thinking he would get
into Hogwarts I don't remember anything being said. Any special
reason why he came to mind while reading the description?
Look forward to a response

Hi Jennie,

I'm rather new at posting too, although I've been lurking and joining the Sunday chat for almost a year now.

Lupin the elder came to my mind simply because of the "presence" this new character has. Greying tawny hair sounds very similar to Remus, although he is going grey prematurely of course.

The wire-rimmed spectacles imply a degree of poverty. (The family fortune spent trying to find a cure for his son's lycanthropy of course.)

The comparison with the lion implies dignity, a quaility I imagine Lupin to have retained in spite of everything. For example not allowing himself to be ruffled by Snape's comments, leaving Hogwarts for the good of the students and to give Dumbledore an easier ride with the parents.

At the end of Goblet of Fire Dumbledore tells Sirius to "lie low at Lupin's." This suggested to me that there is a Lupin family home somewhere. You are quite right, there is no reference to his parents other than how they tried to everything to cure his lycanthropy in canon.

Sam. (Dina, thanks for your comments on continuing to post these ideas on OT Chatter. I'm well aware this is a bit half baked and I do find the main list too polished to contribute to comfortably.)

I also noticed people on the main list have picked up JKR's comment about Sirius not being married and trying to use this to argue for and against the Remus and Sirius SHIP. While I would approve of her including a gay couple in a series about tolerance, given her warnings she made at the same Q and A session to the assembled young girls about avoiding bad boys I found myself yelling at the computer:

"Well please keep Remus straight then!"

I should be too old for this fan girl buisness.
