Venting...and a Question!

My DH was completely uninterested at first, but now he has so eagerly
embraced HP that all this almost-60-year-old kid wanted for Christmas
this year was a wand. How did it happen?
I'd read all the books and dragged him to the first two movies, which
he attended politely and even asked questions, but it was clear that
he "just wasn't that into it." But early last summer I had some
extensive dental work done, and the dentist recommended that I bring
an audio book to help pass the time and distract me while the work
was being done. I went to the library and checked out POA on tape
(this was just before the movie came out). I'd only listened to one
of the seven cassettes by the time the dentist finished.
The following weekend, we had an eight-hour road trip to make and I
took the tapes in the car with me. I asked him if he would mind if I
listened to just a little bit more of the story, and he moaned a
little, saying that he'd listen for one hour, and then he wanted the
music back on. I popped in the tape, giving him a quick summary of
what had happed in the first few chapters, and we listened to Jim
Dale for the next hour or so. I took it out when it finished and put
the tapes away, and he said, "Well, what happens next? Put in the
next one!" So we heard the entire story on that trip, and GOF on the
next one, and eventually we have heard all five audio books and re-
viewed all the movies. He was so hip by the time POA-movie came out
that he was able to nitpick as well as I!
I think it is because he is dyslexic and does not enjoy recreational
reading that he never got into it; but hearing the stories read to
him in such a skillful way really got him excited about it. (What he
doesn't know is he's getting a late Christmas gift--just wait till
our copy of Stephen Fry reading PS arrives from amazon.co.uk!)
I've pre-ordered HBP-print; I wonder if he can stand to wait for the
audio or if he'll actually tackle the book? Stay tuned...
