Actually, I thought it was a rather elegant statement that the word
makes, but
to explain why, here's my take on it. While JKR does use Latin-roots
and
anagrams, she also uses phonemes (e.g. diagonally into Diagon Alley).
The
"hor" in horcrux refers to whore. Why? In Jungian psychology the
prostitute
archetype represents anyone who sells out their integrity (not just
their body)
in order to fill a material purpose. So in a sense, selling off your
soul's
integrity/wholeness for immortality really is whoring yourself. And
that's the
crux of the matter. <g>
