Hi there,

I am a little confused here, you say that Jacinto is pronounced
Yacinto in spanish, I am mexican (as I stated) and it is the first
time that I see this. Jacinto is pronounced Hacinto AFAIK, and I know
people from different parts in Mexico and they pronounce it this way.
I don't know if they pronounce Yacinto in other spanish speaking
countries, or latin people who live in english speaking countries do
this. I remember my English teacher from my ESL course in San
Francisco; he went mad because I didn't pronounce the name of Hernan
Cortez (the spanish conqueror) correctly. I thought that I would
pronounce the name as I know it, but he wanted the english
pronounciation of it (of which I had no clue of course). Maybe this is
the case. ;)

To Geoff, the "th" sound doesn't exist in mexican spanish the s and z
and in some cases the c sound /s/. In spanish from Spain I think the c
and the z would sound that way, but here I can only assume from what I
hear on TV or listen in songs, it may also depend on which area of
Spain you live in.
