HP withdrawal remedies

I'm not so much into the fantasy genre of fiction (HP
is about it, really), but if you want to 'immediately
get absorbed in the story and characters', I would
reccomend anything written by John Irving. He's a
great writer, and knows how to tell an engaging story
like no one else I can think of. It's an oldie, but
The World According to Garp is one of his best and a
wonderful, amazing book. t will suck you in from the
first sentence, I promise!
Charles Dickens also has a way absorbing the reader in
the story. Now might be a good time to read some
classic literature.

To prevent the development of a full blown obsession
brought on by
rereading the series over and over again (I'm
currently a graduate
student in clinical psychology, so I didn't think that
was a good
idea!), does anyone have any recommendations for
novels to read
until the greatly anticipated date of July 16th?

I think that what I loved most about HP is that you
immediately get
absorbed in the story and characters. I'm looking for
something
written in a style like Rowling's - she expertly
creates a
captivating world for readers without using a verbose
and overly
metaphorical style that sometimes convolutes the
story.

So far, everything I pick up just doesn't do it for
me! I am usually
an avid Stephen King reader, but lately I've wanted a
change from
scary, sci-fi thrillers and now prefer a "feel-good"
book like HP. I
love the magical world of wizards and spells and young
characters in
HP and wish to find something else like it:) The
problem is that now
I'm finding it hard to find a book for adults that is
written as
purely and brilliantly as HP.

Please help!
Becca :)
