Hi Shaun,
I thought of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, I
find them funny and entertaining.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and James and the Giant
Peach by Roald Dahl.
Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen by Garth Nix, great series but a
little dark. There is a new book in the series but I can't remember
the title, I think it has the word Abhorsen in it.
Hope this helps! Best regards.
