My, my, it's all very quiet, and then all of a sudden I don't visit 
for a couple of days and everything happens!!
Just my 2P (because I know you all love to hear my opinion).
I have perused all three covers that I am aware of...
1)Adult version - I'd say the author was Libalius Borage, and from 
all the research that others, much worthier than myself, have done, I 
feel fairly confident we've got it right.  I think there's definitely 
a big Snape link in there (But it was fairly certain he was going to 
play a major role, I mean after the trio and DD he is the next main 
character isn't he?)
2)UK children's version - Mm (ponders a while), my first instinct was 
that it was DD and HP in the jaws of Armageddon, but maybe thats a 
bit extreme!  Definitely a bit of fighting going on (as we would 
expect in a war), but DD looks really mad about something...
3)US children's version - is it a pensieve?  is it a pillar?  No its 
DD and HP as immortal gods looking down at us mere mortals trying to 
work out the hidden meanings to the new HP book covers...
