I think most of the episode was fine in terms of directing choices (or,
at least, I didn't *notice* the directing choices, which is a very good
thing), it's just that the Lexana scenes seemed awkward both visually
and in tone, and ED was a little out-of-control, IMO.

Well, the second season's only got something like four episodes left;
so, at this point, I'd suggest you just get ahold of a copy of the
season one DVDs and watch them over the summer (unless you happen to
have a Nielsen box, that is ^_~), so you'll be able to enjoy the S1
mystery without being spoiled for it. Seriously, you should give it a
try -- it'll pretty much blow your mind. In Joss Whedon's words: Best.
Show. Ever.

The first snippet of Smallville I ever caught was of Lex speechifying
to Clark in the barn after the shenanigans in "Talisman." I was just
like, "Who is this bald dude, and why does everyone make such a fuss
over him?" Little did I know.

Well, in the interest of pimping, here's a fan-made "trailer" for S1 of
VM that I've always thought was very well-done in terms of editing.
^_~ Enjoy.

Weevil (leader of the biker gang) and Logan (poor little rich boy and
"obligatory psychotic jackass") are in detention and scheming about how
to get back at the teacher who put them there:
Weevil: "I've got a plan." *pauses*
Logan: "Tick tick. Losing interest."
Weevil: "Well, if I thought you had the cojones to pull it off, I'd
tell you, but . . ."
Logan: "*Never* underestimate the size of my cojones." *winks*
Logan's actor, Jason Dohring, is much like Michael Rosenbaum in that he
has this intense chemistry with pretty much everyone and everything
around him, so it makes for lots of yummy subtext. Plus, he skips!

I actually watched most of the Chlex confrontation thinking that Lex
was just ragging on Chloe for being, in theory, unattractive to men,
but his last line, <paraphrase> I think I realize now why you've never
had a boyfriend</paraphrase> made me wonder if he was actually accusing
her of being secretly in love with Lana. Which would rock. I *adore*
the idea of Lana leaving Clark/Lex for another woman. Clark would just
be in *complete* shock ("Lesbian?! What's a *lesbian*?!"), and Lex
would be . . . well, probably in his bunk. ^_~
Hell, if I were Lana, I'd have been completely turned off of men by the
end of S1 -- they always seem to go crazy and try to kill her, poor
girl. Although, to be fair, sometimes the chicks do too (alla Tina).
I'm actually watching "Cool" right now -- where Lex is trying to
convince Clark to put the moves on Lana. Oh, how far we've come,
Smallville.
