Christian:
I don't think they hold back publication of the original English
version to wait for non-English translations to be completed.
Certainly in Norway the translator has to wait until the official
publication date before he has a manuscript to work with. I think
the various non-English language publishers may benefit from this -
as the books in the series tend to be released mid-summer, the
translations tend to be released in time for Christmas.

I looks likely to me that the English-language editions don't really
need the extra pull of Christmas shopping-season, while for the
translations it might be beneficial as relatives buy translated
editions as Christmas-presents for family-members they know are
Potter-fans. Certainly for me the only way I'd ever get a Norwegian
translation of a Potter-book would be if somebody gave it to me as a
gift - I wouldn't buy one myself, as I have read one, and was not
particularly satisfied with some of the choices the translator made.

Best regards
Christian Stubø
