I think the idea of a pebble or some soil is wonderful! My
grandfather came to the states from Ireland when he was 17 and some of
his extended family still live in Derry. (Is it silly to consider
that land my "roots"?) I long for the day when I can go the England
and Ireland myself. I suppose a piece in a bottle would be a
reasonable substitute.
Thanks also to Tyler for the suggestion of tea. I am a tea drinker,
be it iced or hot. (Not a fan of iced tea? There is nothing better
on a hot South Carolina day!) I may use both ideas. One for
consumption; one for personal history!
