I was on the finally on the beach after an exhausting week excavating and
cataloging artifacts in the Yucatan ruins. From my hammock, I watched my
first sunrise over the Eastern rim of the world's waters and I idly scraped
up some sand. I called my hubby collect that morning (I don't recommend
calling the US collect from Mexico as the charges were exorbitant! Stick to
cheap e-mail in Internet Cafes or buy calling cards!) since we hadn't spoken
in well over a month. He spent that afternoon watching the sunset over the
Western rim of the world's waters and he scraped up some sand. I have both
those collections of sand--one white from the Yucatan limestone and the
other tan from the volcanic Pacific--in little jars on my desk where I see
them every day. Jars of sand? Priceless--except for the telephone bill.
