Barb now:

My dad was born and raised in Australia (Melbourne) and we all lived
in Perth for 4 months when I was young-I had my 7th birthday there.
Did a fair bit of travelling the country around at that time,
although I haven't been back.

For Father's Day this Sunday, I would like to put together a basket
of food from "home" for my dad. Since it is so last minute, I know
I'll have to make do with what's available-either at the grocery
store or at an import store. There simply isn't time to have my Aunt
(still in Australia) or anyone else send me a box of goodies.

Vegemite is easy- it's very readily available, which my dad loves
and the rest of us hate. I also just found out that an import store
in the area has one of my favorite things in the whole world (and my
dad's, too),so I'm going to stock up-I found Violet Crumbles in
Minnesota! Since the Australian store closed (maybe 15 years ago),
I've only had 1 Violet Crumble, and I adore them. If I can find
Pavlova, I'm going to get several. I know a specialty grocery store
that used to carry it, but I don't know if they do anymore.

So Violet Crumbles, Vegemite, and maybe Pavlova. Aussies- Wolfie or
anyone else- any suggestions on wonderful Australian foods that I
should look for?
