Hi Christine, welcome!
Here are my suggestions:
-The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Ambery Spyglass,
which are all part of the second best (Harry Potter being the first
of course) fantasy series, IMHO, that is. They are written by
Philip Pullman. The series is referred to by some as the "His Dark
Materials" trilogy.
- A Princess of Roumania, by Paul Park. A great tale, and very well
written.
- Last, but not least, is my latest favorite called Poison Study, by
Maria Snyder.
- Oh, one more trilogy, The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem's Eye,
and Ptolemy's Gate, all from the The Bartimaeus Trilogy. At first,
these books sounded like a Potte rip-off, but they are not at all.
The stories are original, funny, and the rules of this magical
London are very interesting.
Hope that helped,
David
