Hmmm. I started reading also I think after GoF and also because of
the long wait, hehe.
I continue reading even though I believe that at least 80% of
fanfiction out there are really, really, really bad - horrible.
Examples are indeed provided on demand.
But there are some gems, to those you named I would add "Never alone
never again" by Bored Beyond Belief, "Redemption", Jelsemium's
stories ( all of them), stories by Ozma ( truly interesting POV by
Filch - too bad she stopped doing it after OOP and so well written)
I love well done slash, so among other favorites of mine are "Slowly
but Exceeding fine" by Elen Freemedon and some others.
So, there are stories that I enjoy. I read them not because I think
they are better than the books ( I am truly baffled as to how *any*
fanfiction can be considered better than the book, even if it is
indeed well written, because JKR gave us those characters to begin
with), but for more in depth studies of the characters, which
fanfiction indeed can do better, because IMO they do not have to
write about everything, they can do certain aspect of Potterverse and
be done with it, while JKR has so many loose ends to tie.
I want to learn more about adult characters sometimes. JKR
concentrates on kids more IMO and I do love Harry's character, but
sometimes I want to see adults more developed too.
Oh, and after OOP I reluctantly started reading AU stories - for one
very specific reason - I want to see Sirius alive :)
