Of course, Harris was perfect for the role. He had the
class and the gentle manner that typified Dumbledore to
at tee. 

Other that him, I think the best bet would have been to go
with Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard) or Ian 
McKellen. Both of whom have a serious side but also have
that same bit of whimsy and gentleness that made Harris
so perfect. All of the suggested actors could play 
both hard and soft with equal intensity. Gambon may be a
good actor in general but he doesn't 'get' Dumbledore, 
and it would help if he would actually take the time 
to read the books, or it would help if the director
and/or producers would make an effort at getting a good
and accurate performance out of him.

Sadly though, I think we are stuck with him, but I 
question whether Gambon can made Dumbledore sympathetic 
enough that I will actually care when he dies.
