Sandy replies:
It just isn't the kind of thing I like to read. To me, they have more of a
sci-fi feel to them than fantasy. I hate sci-fi, and, quite frankly, fantasy is
not something I normally read. I read mostly non-fiction....
...
My brother is a big LOTR fan and
has the entire series, but despite so many people telling me how good they are
and that if I like HP I will like LOTR I just simply am not interested in
them. ... I have close to 50 books sitting around my
apartment, and there are more that I want to get, that I haven't read yet and want to
read, so I am not going to waste my time reading something I am not interested
in.
Kemper now:
I wish I never read LOTR. It took me a summer, and I can't get that summer back. It is one of the most boring books in existance. That's not hyperbola.
I love SciFi and Fantasy: Battlestar Galactica (old and new, 'So say we all'), Star Wars (except for Jar Jar), Star Trek (all versions), Firefly and Serenity (God bless Joss Wheadon... check out his Astonishing X-Men!), vampires in comics (30 Days of Night) books (Sonja Blue series) movies (Night Watch), Avatar: the Last Airbender, His Dark Materials trilogy, The Bartimaeus trilogy, NBC's Earth 2 and Heroes, and more.
I'm geeky, but I make it look bad-ass.
So... LOTR sucks. That said, I liked the Hobbit.
