Exactly what is that 'red and green icky' stuff. That is
certainly the most objectionable part of fuit cake? Your
grandmother's apricot and pecan cake sounds divine. You
generally don't find too many fans of apricots but I like
them.

Back to red and green icky stuff, what is it? It taste
like nasty ill-flavored wax. I swear Gummy Bears or diced
up candy worms (the rubbery type) would taste better.

Personally, I think some cranberries and perhaps cherries
or some nice bits of diced orange with the rine would do
the trick nicely.

Speaking of cranberries and oranges, my mother makes the
best cranberry relish at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Unfortunately she has made it for so many years that she
no longer has the recipe, she makes it more by instinct.

Basically, you grind up a couple of bag of raw cranberries
and, say, two or three oranges, peelings and all, in a meat
grinder or other similar food grinder. Then dump it all in
shallow cake pan and cover it with a cup or so of sugar,
stir, and let sit in the refrigerator over night.

Just curious about the sadist who invented those 'icky
things'.
