well. actually - the hacks are the journalists, and they each believe they
have been given an exclusive, whereas Dan has been saying the same thing to
each of them.  The compliment is due to the fact that Dan manages to make
each of them feel privileged and special.

As I understand it (but you can't use "twig" in this context - to twig is
more to understand because a light suddenly went on, if that makes sense...)
