Annemehr <annemehr at yahoo.com replied:>

I'm sure it would have been. I heard about it myself in Spring of 1999 by word of mouth. The only way I found HP on the internet was by deliberately searching for it<snip>

In fact, everyone whose history I know came to HP via the books or movies first, and then found the online community afterward.

Me now:

I didn't find the online resources until much later, but if I had
not been told about the books on a mailing list (on the works of
author Lois McMaster Bujold), I might never have picked up the books,
and later the movies. The recommendations from that list are generally
well-suited to my tastes, and a number of people were raving about the
first book, so I tried it. The rest, as they say, is history. So, in
a very real way, I was introduced to Harry and company online.

Sue, in Ohio
