I thought I read that in the early HP books Scholastic replaced most
of the Briticisms that they thought American's wouldn't get with
more American phrases (pity, that), but that in the last few books
they left most of the Briticisms in. I did notice that in DH they
mentioned the Sorcerer's Stone which was called the Philosopher's
Stone in all editions but the American ones (and is called that
historically). I guess Scholastic thought they would confuse US
readers if they mentioned the Stone by it's true name rather than
the marketing one they came up with for the first book.
