Actually, he would have taken Slughorn's spot since Snape had swiched
to DADA in HBP and headmaster in DH. I can't see Snape returning to
teaching Potions if he had survived and been publicly vindicated. But
it's really odd that the Russian translator didn't notice Neville's
plant warfare in DH or his affinity for Herbology (specifically
mentioned in relation to Crouch!Moody and the water plants book in GoF).
Carol, who thinks that having Neville teach Potions would show that
Snape managed to teach Neville Potions in spite of Neville's
ineptitude and Snape's sniping, but, of course, it's just a weird
misreading against the evidence of the text
